Oakridge 864 ‘Van Der Meulen’ Chardonnay’ 2008
November 28, 2011
This wine has been on my bucket list for a while now. It hasn’t let me down.
There’s a note of flint underneath nut shell and melon. It’s lovely to smell though most of the magic happens on the palate. Flavours of white grapefruit, lemon, honeydew and cashew. The wine’s length is remarkable, sustaining the notion of quality. There’s a good balance between citrus drive, melon freshness and nutty, creamy roundness.
Some wines of this calibre are easy to gushingly describe. This one, not so much for me. It’s modestly brilliant, and instantly recognisable as so. Modern Australian Chardonnay at its very best.
Outstanding
