About
Tasting and guzzling wines in Perth, Western Australia with an increasing focus on alternative varieties and styles. Writing by Jesse Lewis
Things I like: Riesling, Champagne, Grüner Veltliner, Great Southern, alternative wine varieties, Tequila, Indian cooking, alternative music, guitar, banjo, photography, film noir, science, birds, DJing, literature, kebabs, beer, British comedy, Google Android, PC games.
Things I dislike: bad Sauvignon Blanc, tacky Aussie wine labels, when people think Riesling is ‘too sweet’, 95% of modern pop music, large scale wine shows.

About ratings: I have decided to shift my rating format from the 100 point system (which I am still fond of) to a simpler description of quality – Average, Good, Very Good, Excellent, Outstanding, Exceptional. Of course, these equate to scores in the 100 point system anyway. I think it helps more people understand ratings, as well as being perhaps more forgiving/easier to decide.
I will often give higher ratings for alternative styles of wine – a handicap, if you will. If a wine is interesting to me, then I think it’s as good as, or better, than one that’s of high quality but boring. As always, the rating is only a small part of the picture. Price is taken into consideration where practicable.
Samples welcome but I can’t guarantee a blog post.
